The Alaska cruise season isn't far from it's 2009 start and now with cruise fares at record lows, it's time to book an Alaskan Cruise. Cruise season starts in late April and goes through September.
There are a variety of cruises and cruisetours departing from a variety of embarkation ports, some in the U.S., some in Canada, and even some in Alaska itself.
I've never cruised Alaska but the plan is to remedy this situation this season. I've booked my cruise and got my airfare, now I'm researching the ports of call and figured I'd take you all along.
If you've cruised Alaska already, I would love your input.
Our ports of call are Ketchikan, Sitka, Seward, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Hubbard Glacier Cruising, Victoria, BC, Vancouver, and San Francisco (there are also some sea days thrown in to just sit back and enjoy the scenery).
The next post will visit Ketchikan, Alaska.

Mama Flo,
An Alaskan cruise is my ultimate dream vacation! But not my husband's. I will be following your trip reports to maybe get some ideas to use to convince him to go.
Hubby and I want to take an Alaskan cruise as well. We will eventually. Our dream cruise for many years now.
From all those that I know that have taken an Alaskan cruise they all highly recommend it.
Have at terrific day. :)
Here's my question -- what's the temperature like in Alaska in April? Remember, I'm an Arkansas boy and that means I likes it hot...
The "Season" begins in late April but it's still cold, by the time we go later in May it will have highs in the 60's probably and nights of course will be cold. You gotta dress for the weather and location Hawg. Of course it warms up as the season progresses but it also gets more wet as May and June are the least wet. I'm learning a great deal in anticipation of our cruise.
I live in Anchorage, but I have to admit I haven't spent much time down in the Panhandle, where your cruise will be taking you. I know there's at least one glacier in Juneau that's worth a look, and Haines has some fascinating old buildings up at the old fort area (um...I actually forget what it's called).
As for weather, well, May in the Panhandle...there will be a lot of rain. That's the only thing I know for sure. I dunno, 40s-50s maybe?
I would love to cruise around the waters of Alaska. The scenery there seems to be so beautiful and I can only imagine the smell of the cold crisp sea air. How much does a cruise usually cost around Alaska?
